Priscilla Portenier currently lives in North Central Nebraska where she has received numerous awards for her oil paintings and charcoal drawings. She holds a BA degree in history from Montana State University and a fine arts minor from North Idaho Community College and studied drawing and painting from Carnegie Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She finds painting the Nebraska landscape enriching and inspiring.
Painting exclusively in oils, Priscilla focuses on light, shadows and capturing the fleeting moment.
“I consider myself more of a painter than artist because oil painting allows me to express myself like no other medium. It shows the history of a brush stroke, layers of colors, textures and edges.
My favorite part of a painting is the beginning. I think of a blank canvas as a tabula rasa and the first marks come freely and expressive. Though I work deliberately, I concede to the paint and brush; letting them work together through the journey of the painting.”
